| Angora rabbit fiber is exceptionally soft, and wonderful to spin! It can also be used for needle-felting and other crafts. The sample above is from a crossbred Angora, 75% German/25% Satin. Angora fiber is harvested either from shearing the rabbit or from and German Angoras are specifically bred to be shorn about every 90 Angora rabbit fiber is exceptionally soft, and wonderful to spin! It days. My rabbitry is temperature-controlled, to provide comfortable conditions for my Angoras, whether shorn or in full coat. All of my Angoras are groomed weekly, unless freshly-shorn. I don't pluck my Angoras, as both German and Satin Angoras have fiber that resists Angoras, as both German and Satin Angoras have fiber that resists plucking, so shearing or combing are the best ways to remove their plucking, so shearing or combing are the best ways to remove their fiber. Since allowing the rabbit to groom themselves while molting, can cause the rabbit to be affected by wool block, shearing or combing help prevent any problems from wool ingestion! Angora wool can be spun by itself, or carded/combed in a blend - I really enjoy using about 50% wool and 50% Angora, as it makes a lovely, soft blend that's warm, yet isn't too hot. Pure Angora yarn can be very warm, and doesn't have the elasticity of wool, so a garment can lose its shape over time. |
